White Wolf Mountain is a place of mystery. The Mountain is a majestic monolith, rising above all others in the range and overlooking the valley it has created. The Mountain harbours a Power, older than any living thing on Earth. The Power has grown over centuries, millenia, eons. Nobody knows how it came to be, but they know this: the Power is changing, evolving all the time. It sees all but it does not know all. The Power likes to learn. It likes to test its subjects and watch the outcome. The Power is a sentient being. It has no physical form and it is confined to the Mountain, but its influence extends far beyond its home of rock.

The Power is in a state of adolescence, and has been for the last two centuries at least. It started taking an interest in the animals that evolved around it when the Earth was young, Only when the mammals started to come, and the Mountain grew in size with the shifting plates below did the Power have enough energy to begin to act on its whims. The first animal to come under the Power's influence was the wolf. A primitive creature, yet complex nonetheless. The wolf hunted and scavenged, second only to the advancing race of man in the predatory chain. The Power ignored man, being more interested in the lives of the wolves. They were social creatures, communicating through howls and yips and body language. The Power wanted to understand this, and when it had amassed enough energy, it created its own wolf.

This wolf was different to those the Power saw, she was white like the snow, and her eyes were the colour of rainbows. At first his White Wolf was distrusted by the other wolves, but eventually they took her in and treated her as one of their own. The White Wolf was revered as a prize among the wolves, and she was taken as the Alpha female to the Alpha male. The White Wolf by this time had accepted her role in the pack, but she knew something was amiss. She did not age. She was as immortal as the Power that had created her.

One fateful day, the pack became ill. The Power looked upon this, and confused, it infused its White Wolf with some of its magic to wield as she saw fit. The mortal wolves called her a legend. She was a magical being, and she came to be know as White Magic. The White Wolf healed her pack, and so the legend of the White Wolf began and continued to grow and be shared across the land.

White Magic stayed with her pack, but she had became pregnant with the offspring of her mortal mate. She could not bare to stay knowing she would long outlast her mate and friends. So she left, making a home on the Mountain where she raised her pups in peace. They were born just as white as their mother, with the same Technicolour eyes. The pups were named Taboo, Sheba, and Gypsy, the Three Sisters.

While White Magic had been in the company of the pack, the Power had been watching. One thing it found most interesting was the slow development of morals in the pack. The presence of magic had began to alter the wolves, and so they had accepted morals into their social ways. Some pack wolves were kind and generous, where as others were violent and became vicious and aggressive. The rest were neutral, neither going out of their way to be kind, but not stooping to hatred and violence. The Power decided to experiment, and using its link between White Magic and her newly born pups, it changed them.

Taboo was the sister that the Power gave the good intentions to. She would be kind and generous, helping other before herself. Sheba would be the neutral sister, evaluating circumstances and never choosing a path the would be good nor bad, she was the mediator. And Gypsy, from whom the Power took away all morals would become the evil sister, sly and cunning and vicious. These Three Sisters were given a link to the Power just as their mother had. The Power allowed them to siphon the endless magic contained in the Mountain and to give small gateways to the mortals so that they could use it. These gateways would be called Mortal Powers, and the Three Sisters would become better known as the White Wolves of Power.

The Mortal Powers manifested as the control of elements and objects, some were stronger than others and some Powers could even control the mind of others. They could be separated into categories: Fire, Earth, Air, Water, Physical, Mental, Defence, Offence, Light and Dark. Powers were sought after by wolves from far and wide. They would visit the White Wolves, and if they were found worthy, the were gifted by these honors. Gypsy was fond of the destructive Powers like Fire, but Taboo was abhorrent of these wild and untamed Powers and only gifted her followers with Powers of defence and calming - those that could be used to help others. Sheba gifted her followers sometimes with the Powers they requested, and other times with those she thought would suit them more. Each sister created their homes on the mountain, in three separate caves to which mortals from each alliance would pilgrimage to in their quest for Powers.

As the decades wore on, each generation of mortal wolves became more and more influenced by the Power. They had now formed three separate divisions, Good, Neutral and Evil. Good and Evil were always in a state of war, and only self preservation stopped them from wiping each other out. Their pelts had also started to develop odd colours and markings. The wolves were no longer shades of mottled brown and grey, but as the generations progressed, they were all colours of the rainbow.

Here there was some lore lost in time and space. Only White Magic remembers, so perhaps one day this lost story will come back to be told as these are.

While the event now that follows is not an abnormal occurrence, the effects of it still make their impression on the landscape. It was two years ago from the present day, on a particularly hot summer. A fire began to rage, engulfing a lot of the Northern half of the forest. The Dancing Shadows pack whose pack was directly in its path barely escaped with their lives. A few of their number were lost to the fire, reminding the wolves that it could take life so easily. The trees that it consumed were burnt to ash, but in its place new life is growing, and the Dancing Shadows pack - now the Dancing Winds pack - have returned to their home.

It was centuries now after White Magic had been created, and the mortal wolves had settled in their home. Life below White Wolf Mountain was steady and the mortal wolves carried on their lives. Except one mortal wolf, saved from death by White Magic, caused a change. He fell in love with the immortal, and inevitably, she became pregnant once again. This litter was born on the Mountain, but something happened with their delivery. All of the White Wolves were present, and as the new life was created, a wash of Power spread over the land.

Any injured mortal was healed, some mortals were given Powers, and others had them taken away. The most destructive Power, Mind Control was wiped clean away, and the Mountain was pleased. It had become too destructive, and it could see the danger it implied. Perhaps the Power was developing a conscience, but who could know...

The newborn litter of four White Wolves were gifted with the Power of Seasons. Each of the four represented a season, the two females were Spring and Autumn and the two males Summer and Winter.

For many generations now the lands around White Wolf Mountain have prospered under the protection of White Magic. While there has never been peace between the good and evil packs a balance was always maintained. But in recent months a dark force has arisen: Kerberos, a spirit of chaos and malevolence.

The delicate balance of life in the valley was upset and for a time destruction and fear became a way of life.

In recent weeks, through the courage and loyalty of the packs, the balance has once again been restored. It will be a long time before the land and its inhabitants forget the evil that was done but with the help of White Magic the wounds are beginning to heal.
