"Knox...please, tell me what is going on with you! I want to understand fully. You seem to have a split personality. One minute you are happy and fun...and even concerned, then another you spat out. What is going on?"

He lowered his gaze to the ground. How was he supposed to explain it all to her when he himself was not even sure what was going on with him. "I..." he paused, not knowing what his next words would be. Knox was clearly struggling with this. His expression was a pained one and he tried desperately to think of what to say to her. The fact that she had almost left had already freaked him out enough. What if he said something so crazy that she thought he was just some psycho and really did leave?

"There is something in my head. I don't know what it is. All I know is that sometimes when I plan on saying and doing one thing, something else comes over me and I react the opposite way of how I had planned it" he tried to explain to her. But he was not sure how well he was at explaining such things. He knew that when he spoke those words, it made him sound a lot like a psycho. But maybe he was just that. An insane, stupid, maniac.

Sahara stopped as she fought the feeling within her, she was in a lot of pain, but refused to acknowledge it and with the lack of food in the last few days she was feeling faint from the loss of blood. She listened to him, but soon near the end of talking everything began to blur. The ebony wolf was tittering and did not know it, she seemed to wobble but she did not notice. As she tried to think of what he was saying she could not digest it. Her mind was spinning out of control.

Suddenly without warning she fell, her eyes rolled in the back of her head as she did so. She fainted before his eyes and layed there on her side. In her subconscious she seemed to be dreaming about what he had said and done. Everything he had done to her and said. However it really was not a dream, no abstract images came to her, it was all a review of their meeting and experiences together. With everything she had seen in her head, Knox had not once hurt her. He played with her, saved her, and he even cleaned her wounds. Knox would only snap at her with words, never had he laid a fang upon her body. She saw this within her mind as she laid unconscious.

Knox could clearly see her swaying, and at first he thought maybe she was still half a sleep and there was nothing to worry about. But he noticed that her wounds had started to bleed again, and as soon as he noticed that, he saw her collapse to the ground in a heap, her eyes rolling into the back of her head as if she had dropped dead. This freaked him out and he rushed to her side.

"Sahara! Sahara!" he called and whined, nudging her. He was not sure what to do, for he had never been in this situation before. "Can you hear me?" he asked, though didn't think he was going to get much of a reply. His eyes shot around as he looked for help, but all he saw was a curious rabbit staring at them. Knox's ears perked forward and he instantly went into a crouch.

The rabbit seemed so transfixed by the black, dying wolf that it did not notice that Knox was hunting it until it was to late. He threw himself at the rabbit, latching an ear in his jaws and pinning to down with one paw, clawing at it with the other and ignoring its frightened cries as its life faded away.

Knox picked it up, its ear still in his mouth as he rushed back to Sahara. He was hoping food would do her some good. The male dropped the now mangled and bleeding rodent next to Sahara's head, praying she would be able to eat.

She laid there for what seemed to be an eternity, but soon the aroma of animal blood filled her nostrils. It broke her imagery and began to bring her back, however, very slowly . She shifted positions lightly, and her face seemed to twitch from trying to wake. Soon within minutes of these motions, she awoke. Eyes slowly opening, they were dim, almost void of life since her energy was worn out. Looking up she saw a panicked Knox. Her lips slowly part as if to say something, but it was only because her mouth was dry.

The ebony wolf lifted herself off the ground wincing as she slightly whimpered. She did not attempt to stand just sit up from her sideways laying. Blinking a few times she was wobbly , still feeling light headed. She looked down seeing a half mangled rabbit, it looked like it had ran into a angered Tasmanian devil. Her gaze looked up to Knox, "Wh-Wh-what happened?" She asked as she looked down at the rabbit, unsure it was for her. It was laid out in front of her but still, she could never be too sure.

Looking back down at the still fresh kill she looked back at him, drool starting to form in her mouth, "Is...is this for me?" She was so confused by all this but did not want to appear so, however, that thought was way too late as she poked the rabbit with her nose then looking back at Knox again, ears laying back on her head. He looked so worried she wondered if death rolled up behind her...or maybe a ghost.

"Wh-Wh-what happened?"

Knox was confused for a moment. Did she not realize or remember that she had just collapsed to the ground and nearly given him a heart attack from the worry? But at least she was awake now... and more importantly still breathing. He had been so scared that she had died. And he still thought this was all his fault. He had been the one to lead her into that cave where the lion had been. "You collapsed. I thought you were dead!" he said, still panicked.

"Is...is this for me?"

The male nodded quickly and sat down, watching Sahara carefully and was ready to jump up and catch her if she decided to fall again. Honestly, he did not like that she was standing up. It would be better for her if she was laying. But he didn't say anything about it. What was most important was that she eat and gain some strength.

She took in deep breaths trying to regain herself, then once he answered all her questions she smiled at him. His concern for her touched her more than anything. Then she leaned down and slid into a lay taking the rabbit into her jaws and eating it slowly. She would have eaten with more enthusiasm but her head was still spinning.

As she ate the rabbit her mind went back to the event, last she remembered was falling. She did not know exactly what had happened. It was as if she fell asleep and in that sleep she thought of Knox. The 'dream' showed her something, something about Knox and her. Knox was not going to hurt her, even if he went into his anger mode, all he did for her was kind things, even if harsh words came from him. Well, at least so far he had not, but still the point was, they had been together for about a week and still Knox had not layed a fang or claw upon her.

Knox also lay down and rested his head on his paws, his dark eyes intently watching Sahara as she slowly consumed the rabbit he had caught for her. He had gotten a good kick from its hind feet when he had attacked it, but nothing to bad. His side still hurt from the kick the lion had given him. But he knew it was nothing more than a bruised side.

As he laid there watching Sahara, he felt sleep slowly creeping up on him. But Knox knew right now was no time for him to rest. He knew he needed to watch Sahara in case she went into unconsciousness again. It was still hard to fight the exhaustion of recent events though. Yet Knox did not let it get to him. He was to determined to watch over Sahara and make sure she did not die. He felt it was his duty for some reason. Like she would not be safe unless he was the one watching over her.

It took her quite awhile to eat the rabbit, eating just about every bit of it as well. She had left the fur, skin, skull, ears and tail as well as a few organs. Sahara now felt full but good, she was not feeling nauseous anymore, nor dizzy. Her bright eyes looked over to him as she lays her head in her paws, ears alertly forward. A small smile crept upon her features as did the sparkle in her eyes.

"Knox..." she began, "Will you please...cuddle me?" She asked nervously hoping he would come over and nuzzle with her. The ebony wolf had grown accustom to sleeping close to him and liked it quite well. She looked into his eyes hoping he would do so. Despite how he felt and how he thought of himself, she felt safe with him. She knew he would not want anything bad to happen to her, and he would do everything in his power not to harm her. However, she knew that there was a dark side to him and she needed to be cautious of that.

"Knox..."

He pulled himself from his thoughts when she spoke his name. It almost sent chills down his spine when she had talked. He gazed into her eyes. She looked... happier now than she had been just a few minute before. And he almost got lost in the bright blue depths of her eyes. Knox knew he was slowly falling for Sahara. Yet for some reason he didn't think it would be wise for him to fall to far. Probably because it would hurt more if he accidentally hurt her.

"Will you please...cuddle me?"

The male was taken aback by that. She wanted him to cuddle her? He gulped and averted his eyes and looked at the ground, thinking. The impulse to go to her and make her feel safe was overwhelming. Yet he was almost scared to. But, none the less, he stood up and closed the few feet gap between them and laid down next to her, nuzzling her neck as he made sure to stay clear of her wounded shoulders.

She saw the hesitation in his eyes, but was not about to push him, she knew that that would only get his dark side to come out. But as she began to doubt that he would come over to her, he did. Her tail began to wag. The ivory male laid down with her snuggling into her neck. Her tail began to wag as she felt whole, and loved by his gesture.

Sahara at this point could not imagine being without him at her side, he gave her a purpose in life and someone to confide in. She let out a happy sigh as her eyelids shut and she began to fall asleep. The ebony wolf slept very well and content with her best friend at her side.

Once assured that Sahara had fallen asleep, he took one last look around the forest, scanning it with his eyes to make sure that the lion was no where to be found. He saw nothing. And heard nothing except the croaking of a frog somewhere near by. The frog, he figured, was a good sign. It meant that water was somewhere near by, and Knox was thirsty. But he did not want to disturb Sahara so he did not get up to go drink. I can wait till morning he thought and rested his head down on top of his companion's head. Within five minutes, he had slipped into dreamworld.

The next morning, Knox woke to the sound of an annoying bird, just like he had the previous morning. Its back? he thought, outraged that it had the nerve to come and harass him again. He lifted his head and saw it had perched itself higher up in the tree than it had the day before. It had obviously learned how to avoid an angry wolf. Knox let out an annoyed growl, his eyes narrowing. If looks could kill, that bird would of dropped dead already.

Sahara had slept fairly well, however, it could have been a lot better if it hadn't been for her shoulders. Her ears picked up the sound of a growl making her eyes open wide, she turned her head to see Knox staring at a bird with the most evil of looks. She smiled, he looked so cute. Laying her head to the side of her arm she watched Knox's display of anger. After a few seconds of this she looked up at the crowing bird. It looked like he had learned his lesson from last time. But not very well.

Sahara studied the tree that this nuisance was in, the branches were low to the bottom. Making for it to be an easy way up...but they also looked fairly flimsy, well not at the base though. Her mind was thinking, thinking of a way to the bird. Her tail lightly wagged as she then looked back at Knox, "If you want that bird so bad, how about to climb the tree?" She said with a sparkle in her eyes and a smile upon her face.

"If you want that bird so bad, how about to climb the tree?"

At the sound of Sahara's voice, Knox turned his head to look at her. He had not even realized that she had woken up. Maybe because he had been deep in thought, contemplating how to get to that damn bird and rip it to shreds. But now that his friend was awake, and more importantly alive, he was distracted by her. He was happy she had made it through the night. "Its ok. Just leave it alone. I bet it wants attention and I am not going to give it the satisfaction of it" he said with a chuckle.

Knox gave Sahara a small smile and did something that he knew might be considered odd. He licked her on the cheek. Then he looked away from her, rose to his feet, and stretched his stiff muscles. What he had just done had been rather random, but Knox had could not deny it anymore. He liked Sahara.Very much. From the moment their eyes had first met, he knew they had a connection. He had just been refusing to accept it before.

Their eyes met and she just kept smiling at him, it seemed now that she was awake the bird meant nothing to him. "Its ok. Just leave it alone. I bet it wants attention and I am not going to give it the satisfaction of it" a small chuckle came from him. It made her tail wag to see him in a good mood, which lately was a lot. There were only a few small angered snaps from him and she usually only flared them by asking too much things or staring too much.

She was caught off guard as he leaned toward her lashing his tongue out kissing her cheek. Her ears went back and she blushed, it showed on her ears and nose lightly. However, she tried to not show it as he rose to his feet and stretched out. Her nose dipped and her eyes seemed to light up like the fourth of July. Cherishing his small gesture she stood, but winced the moment she did. The scabs upon her shoulders stiffened in the night making it painful to move them.

Looking over to Knox she hoped he did not notice as she attempted to stand in a position that was less painful and less noticeably painful. Her tail wagged hiding any signs of pain, it was a trick she learned growing up with her mother. The less pain she revealed the less harm came to her, and the less advantage her mom felt she got. "So, where we off to now, my friend?"

Knox took a quick glance at Sahara, and noticed that she looked happy as ever, but he knew that she must be in pain from her shoulders. He still blamed himself for leading her into that cave. He never planned on going in those dark, deep, giant, rocky and damp holes again. Those caves were to dangerous, even for him. After all, he had hardly been able to protect Sahara against a small mountain lion.

"So, where we off to now, my friend?"

He let out a sigh and looked around, seeing nothing but forest. But he had heard of a few crystal clear springs before. And the both of them did need water, badly. He turned his gaze to Sahara. "I know you are in pain and all, but we need water. So I was thinking we should head to the Alderwolf Springs. I think its only a few miles from here" he said, hoping that the wolf who had told him that so long ago was right.

The ebony fae looked at Knox intently as he looked around her eyes doing the same thing. Which way should they go? Suddenly Knox made a good point and a good plan on execution, "I know you are in pain and all, but we need water. So I was thinking we should head to the Alderwolf Springs. I think its only a few miles from here". Her bright blues looked back at him with a smile and nodded.

"Sounds good to me.. She almost wanted to say 'hun' but stopped herself. Taking a deep sigh she began to walk to him ready to follow. Each step was excruciating, but she did more than wince if that. Her throat was tight as she stopped any whimper that wanted to come up and any tear that wanted to show. Her head turned to look at the damage wondering why such a smaller cat could do so much damage.

It looked bad in the day, worst than she thought it was. Three lashes were made on each shoulder where the cat had grabbed her, and one was deep into the flesh. The deepest one was the one that was causing most of the pain for it had cut through a lot of nerves, but luck was on her side. The damage could have been worse, it could have been tendons that were cut but luckily none were.
