"You are certainly a very smart wolf," Vice murmured after hearing her out. As far as he could tell Silver was the smartest wolf he had ever met; Shagari had been a fool to claim the Barran Wastes and to declare war on Frigid Plague, and Neon...Well, Neon had betrayed his pack by going to Gypsy for a power without permission, and a very dangerous power at that. Inferno. It was practically untested! Any wolf who acquired it would die within a year-- a most undesirable fate to befall any wolf, much less the gamma of Escor. Of course, Vice had also asked Gypsy for a power, but he would have kept it a secret had she given it to him without first assigning him this stupid task. And that other wolf who had joined...he was blanking on his name...Thanos? Yes, that sounded familiar. No one knew anything about Thanos.

"You shall be my beta," he announced to the silver she-wolf, having made up his mind. She was smart, respectful, persuasive-- she even obeyed his silent command to come forward. The perfect choice, and he didn't care if he met someone with all these qualities and more in the future. They would have to take it up with Silver if they wanted her position. That was how a pack worked-- at least, how his pack would work.

It took several minutes of trotting in silence before he realized that the faint heat radiating from Senka's body as she traveled beside him could no longer be felt. He stopped immediately and half-turned, looking back the way they had come. A long way off he could see a wolf-shaped creature. That must be Senka, thought Vice, eyes narrowed against the glare of the sinking sun. Damn, he had already offended her and she hadn't even been in the pack for a day. Vice said not a word but sat down facing Senka as she walked slowly in their direction, expecting Silver to do the same. If the brown wolf was smart she would pick up her pace-- soon her thirst would become more persistent and though death was not an immediate threat at the moment she would die without water. But they would reach water well within that time. About fifteen minutes of trotting would get them there, but it would take more than an hour at Senka's current pace.

As she grew closer Vice noticed that the wolfess seemed to be following the pawprints of the other two wolves. How stupid could you get? The winds were picking up-- a storm was brewing and soon the gusts would wipe away all trace of the trio. They had to get out of the Wastes before the storm hit or they would all be stuck in the middle of a blinding sandstorm.

The male barked impatiently to tell Senka to hurry up-- he would apologize when she caught up.

As Vice replied to what she had said, Ragnarok merely nodded and continued forward in silence. Sapphire orbs turned to look at Vice as he officially declared that she would be his beta. Though she did not smile, her eyes brightened slightly. She belonged in a pack and had a set rank. She was no longer a loner, at least for now.

Ragnarok's ears twitched, turning backwards at the lack of pawsteps. She noticed at about the same time that Vice did that Senka was no longer with them. She stopped when Vice did and turned, sitting beside him to wait for Senka to catch up. Out of habit, her tail curled about her form.

Although nothing could be revealed by Senka's expression, Ragnarok could kind of guess as to how she felt. She would have told Senka that they did need her and that she was important to the pack yet it was not her place. Instead she kept her head held high and watched.

Senka glanced up just slightly to notice that Vice had stopped. She sighed and just lowered her gaze back to the footprints, feeling to disgusted with him to even look at him. She was still pissed off at him and Silver, and she had every right to be. She knew those two wolves had instantly disliked her. And she could tell by the looks they had given her in the past hour that they probably thought she was completely clueless and hardly worth the trouble. Sure she was not the smartest wolf in the world, but she wasn’t a complete idiot. She knew plenty of things. It then occurred to her that she should not even care what they think. Their opinions did not matter to her.

Senka raised her head again when she heard the bark. The brown female rolled her eyes and let out an annoyed huff as she picked her pace up into a fast trot. She had actually just taken an order from him. Ugh, this desert is making me do weird things she thought as she finally caught up with the two other wolves. Her head was now held high as she trotted right on past them a few feet and then stopped to wait for them to get moving again and for Vice to lead the way once more. She did not say a word though, for everything she had said so far had not done her much good so she figured there was no use to talk at all.

Sapphire orbs narrowed as she noticed that Senka's pace did not slow as she approached the two wolves and instead trotted right past them. Ragnarok's ears flicked backwards in irritation. She had had nothing against the female until Senka gave her a hateful look and automatically assumed she could take her. Ragnarok had let that go, knowing that it was best to try to be at least neutral towards her rather than dislike each other immediately. Only for Senka to continue her attitude.

Ragnarok stood but did not move, waiting for Vice's reaction. It was not her place to confront Senka, not yet at least. By not stopping and instead trotting past them, Senka had, in a way, challenged Vice. She should have stopped by Vice and waited for him to move. A pack moves on the command of the alpha, and its pace is set by the alpha. That is the reason for a hierarchy. Senka obviously did not respect Vice. If Vice wanted obedience from Senka, he would have to earn her respect. Ragnarok wondered how that would play out and if she too would have to gain Senka's respect and if force was the best way to do that. Ragnarok's expression was guarded as she waited.

Vice was just as surprised as Senka herself as he watched her speed up-- were his leadership skills that good, to make this wolf who obviously resented and disliked him obey him? Or was it just instinct that held the pack together-- wolves were, after all, social animals with respect for authority running in their veins. Or perhaps it was her need to find water, and Vice alone knew the way? Well, he would find out soon enough. If she deserted them when she had gotten her fill of water, or when he had led them out of this lifeless arid plain, he would know what her intentions really were.

Vice stood as Senka neared him and Silver and was about to speak, but stopped as she just jogged right past him. This was ultimate disrespect, but he figured he had earned it and he was hardly in any position to confront her about it. One wrong word on his part and Senka would leave the pack, which was the last thing he wanted even if she was an arrogant, immature bitch. But who knows-- perhaps she would change. Sometimes that happened.

Instead of challenging the female he turned and trotted after her, gesturing for Silver to do the same, and caught up with her. This time he stayed level with her shoulder and said quietly, "I'm sorry, Senka. I did not mean to offend you." Both his eyes and his heart were sincere. He decided he would wait for a reply from her before taking up the alpha's position again-- A smart wolf admitted that an alpha was nothing without his pack-- just another loner. He could not afford to alienate this female already.

(Can we please keep this in order? I noticed sometimes we skip each others turns. And then it confuses me. lol. Oh and sorry for this post being rather short.)

As Vice stood and began walking again, she did to. Honestly she didn’t give a damn who was in front of who. And when Vice caught up with her a few seconds later, she huffed and did not look him. And when he spoke, she felt like just yelling at him to shut the hell up and leave her alone.

"I'm sorry, Senka. I did not mean to offend you."

Oh no, he was apologizing to her. Senka had never done well with apologies. She never knew what to say back to anyone when they said sorry. Her eyes widened and she gulped, contemplating if she should say anything back to him. But honestly she was stumped. So all she did was nod at him, still not bothering to look at him.

“Lets just get to the water and get a good drink” she said as she stared strait ahead. For a bit she had forgotten how thirsty she was. But now, with what looked like a dust storm building up, she remembered how parched the sand and heat of the barrens had made her throat.

Ragnarok watched as Vice turned and trotted to where Senka was. She saw Vice nod for her to follow. Mentally sighing, Ragnarok shook herself as if to dispel her impatience and irritation. Once done, she followed Vice. Ragnarok listened to Vice apologize to Senka and watched Senka's reaction. She was surprised by the femme's reaction to the apology.

I have to learn patience. Ragnarok thought as she watched the exchange. Ragnarok decided to add her own part, she wanted to be on at least neutral terms with Senka. "We do need you Senka, no offense was meant." Ragnarok was sincere as she said it. She saw the wisdom in having Senka within the pack. She turned to look ahead, not knowing what else to say, agreeing with Senka to go get water now.

Vice noticed the brown female's breath expelled as if in exaggeration or annoyance-- but he decided to ignore it. She had a right to these feelings; a right he had given her.

The male stifled a chuckle, amused at Senka's reaction to his apology, but could not help a grin spreading across his face. How amusing this little wolf was!

A jolt of surprise went through Vice's chest as Silver's words reached his ears-- she had never struck him as the type to reassure another that they were important, but of course she had been surprising him all day. First the challenge she had issued him, then the abrupt change in her mood...the way she had views so similar to his own. And now he sensed anxiety coming off the silver wolf-- anxiety and something else he couldn't name. But he did know the meaning-- Silver did not like the tension in the pack. She wished they could all be at peace. Vice knew now that he had made a wise choice for his beta.

Once again Vice picked up the pace, but this time it was not to make a point but really to reach the water faster. The brewing storm was a threat that strained his nerves and made him nervous-- It would hit within an hour, he was sure, and the winds were now at twenty miles an hour. On the ground.

"We need to hurry," Vice said just loudly enough to be heard over the groaning wind.

"We do need you Senka, no offense was meant."

Ugh stop talking to me! She thought, her nostrils flaring just slightly and was hardly noticeable. All she wanted right now was water. That’s it. She didn’t need their apologies or reassurances. She was just fine… wasn’t she? Senka shook her head to clear her thoughts and her eyes narrowed. Once they got a good drink they could settle their disputes and come to understandings with each other. After all, Senka could be a decent wolf at times, but not when she was thirsty. When she was thirsty she felt like stomping on everyone.

"We need to hurry,"

Her ears perked up as she watched Vice quicken his pace. She took a quick glance at the skies and then back forward and picked up her pace as well, desperate to get to water before the storm got to bad. Never in her life had she been in a dust storm before, and she was not looking forward to it at all. But at least there was a wolf here, Vice, who had probably been in them before and knew how to survive one. If he could lead them through this, then she would have a little more confidence in him.

As Vice set off Ragnarok followed, her long legs picking up the pace easily and was ready to run faster if needed. The drastic change in the weather was making her slightly nervous and she could tell the others were nervous as well. The high wind speeds made Ragnarok tucked her tail closer to her body to make it easier to run. Her ears perked forward as Vice stated they needed to hurry.

Ragnarok's ears lowered against her head to keep the wind from hurting her ears and getting to much dust within them. Lowering her head slightly she quickened her pace a little more, sticking next to Vice, hoping they weren't to far from the watering hole.

By the time Vice had led them to the watering hole his own thirst had grown and become more pronounced. His entire mouth felt like it was made of sandpaper-- which it practically was. He had inhaled so much sand it would be surprising if some of it had not found its way into his mouth.

Through the barrage of tiny grains Vice spotted, with his eyes narrowed to slits against the sand and pelting winds, what he had been waiting for: The water. The last fifty yards he sprinted, unable to contain his desperation any longer. The white wolf plunged into the muddy, unappealing water and started lapping it up, wishing he could put his muzzle in and suck it up like a deer. The limited amount of water he could take in was frustrating beyond belief, but he dealt with it, refusing to be phased by something so minor and ashamed he had even noticed it. Longing and frustration were signs of weakness.

Soon he had drunk his fill of the water that tasted like mud and was warmer than he would have liked, heated by the sun, though his parched mouth would not have known the difference had it been a crystal-clear spring.

Vice trudged through the water, eyes still narrowed against the forceful gusts, until he was standing on level ground once more. He shook the water from his pelt-- the male felt refreshed and somehow cleaner, even though his white fur was stained brown by the mud. All the moisture in his fur seemed to have been sucked out by the wind and all that was left scrubbed out by the grains of sand the wind drove deep beneath his fur. Now he felt much better.

He looked around curiously through slitted eyes, wondering when Senka and Silver would be ready to go.

There it was, the life saving water! Senka could see it just ahead, and when Vice ran to go to it, she trotted quickly after him. But when she actually got to the water and saw how disgusting it looked, she was unsure. Now it didn’t look so life-saving. It looked more like a mud pit. But, it was better than nothing and she knew that if a hole pack had survived on this stuff, then it must be safe.

She sighed and lowered her head and began lapping it up, wincing a the disgusting taste it held. Water was supposed to taste like almost nothing, but this stuff tasted like a mixture of… something. But, no matter her disgust, she drank. At least it was soothing her dry mouth and throat.

Once she had drunken her fill fill of the nasty water, she raised her head and squinted her eyes as she looked around herself, ears completely back for she did not want a bunch of sand to get into them. Her brown coat ruffled in the wind, which had grown in strength within a matter of minutes.

By the time Vice had led them to the watering hole, Ragnarok's ears were flat against her skull, her eyes were mere slits to keep the sand out, and her head was lowered making a straight line from her head to the base of her spine to make for a faster run.

She raced to the water if only to get out of the raging winds filled with sand. Running into the water till it touched her underbelly, Ragnarok drank in big gulps trying not to take in to much air with the water. Feeling her belly fill with the warm, soil tasting water she began to take in smaller gulps of water until she was finally full and her thirst temporarily gone. She could have cared less what the water looked like.

Walking through the water till it came up to her neck, she lowered herself the rest of the way and ducked her head under as well for a second. Rising above the water, she walked till she stood on dry land once more and shook out her coat and the water from her ears as well. From her ears to her paws, her coat showed brown from the water. Although the water was warm it helped cool her core temperature and she felt better immediately. With the hot wind and sand, the water would help to slow her temperature from rising even while running. It also helped clear the sand from her mouth and ears and made her skin not so itchy. Her eyes mere slits and her ears once again close to her skull she looked around.

Spotting Vice close by, she walked over ready to either run out this storm or find shelter. She nodded to Vice to indicate she was ready to leave when he was.

Vice watched, amused, as Silver dunked her entire body beneath the surface of the large pond and came up, silver fur dripping brown water. The male had to admit that now that his thirst had been satisfied the water did look unappealing, even slightly disgusting. But it didn't matter anymore. His belly was comfortably full and his tongue no longer stuck to the roof of his mouth.

Vice nodded back to Silver as she came to join him, then turned to look at Senka. Whenever she as ready they would leave. Perhaps it would be better to set a faster pace than they had on the way here; the storm was coming on much faster than he had expected. Already dark, ominous clouds were forming above their heads and deep rumbles of thunder could be heard in the distance. Vice didn't mind storms, but in this wasteland the three wolves were the tallest things around, and lightning would be attracted to them before anything else. Luckily it should take only about twenty minutes of of a slow run before they were out of the wastes and into the forest south of the territory. From there they would head to the hunting plains and see what they could catch there.

Senka stared at Silver when she dipped in the murky water. Shes lost her mind! She thought a weird look on her face. And when the other female made her way back to land and shook out, Senka ducked to make sure none of the filthy water got on her coat. Ugh gross. She looked up once she was sure there would be no more drops flying everywhere. Hmph.

Senka watched as Silver went over to Vice, and Senka followed, but stopped when he looked at her. For a moment she thought maybe she had done something wrong again. I cant do anything right, can I? she wondered and looked away from the other two wolves but made sure she could see them from the corner of her right eye. Now she just wanted to get out of here. Maybe they would be able to outrun this storm? She was sure that she could, for she had a pretty good speed.

Her gaze returned to Vice and she tilted her head to the side, waiting for his command on what they would do next. Her green eyes watched him carefully. She was ready on a moments notice to get out of here.

Ragnarok grinned at the both of them, especially when Senka ducked to avoid the water that was shaken off her. She knew her fur must be stained brown now but she didn't care. The water was just dirt mixed with water that equaled mud, the sun made it taste slightly stale but survival was key and she was hot.

Her face became guarded again as she looked back at Vice and nodded, everyone was ready to go. She as well was ready to go and get out of here. The wind was getting even stronger and the sand was starting to hurt as it hit soft places. She would be content at running at a full sprint, no longer dehydrated nor hot. Sapphire orbs glanced at the sky and the dark clouds forming, glancing back at Vice she said.

"We are ready when you are, we should run if we want to get to somewhere safe before the storm fully hits." Ragnarok stated.

Noticing the uneasy look Senka threw at him, Vice realized he must have done something to offend her...again, so he nodded apologetically just in case. The female averted her gaze, giving Vice no clue as to what she was thinking, so he just let it go. Now was not the time for this kind of thing.

Vice grinned back at Silver, though not understanding why, and nodded in agreement. "My thoughts exactly," he replied, referring to her suggestion that they run on the way out. He stood up as he realized that they were both ready to go and immediately turned south, trotting. Once they were all settled into their proper hierarchical positions he would pick up the pace-- although now he was worried about the water sloshing around in all of their bellies. It might make them sick, or at least give them horrible cramps. Well, Vice was ready to risk that to get out of here before the storm hit-- about half an hour from now, he estimated. There was a static kind of tension and the smell of thunder in the air as they ran, making Vice uneasy and jumpy.

((Shall I make a new thread somewhere, preferably the Hunting Plains?))

Senka looked at Silver as she spoke, not liking that the other female seamed to be speaking for her. Sure, she was ready to leave, but Senka didn’t like others talking for her. Yet, she said nothing about it. Besides, everything she had said before had resulted in someone being mad at her.

As Vice began trotting off, she followed, but staid a few paces behind. She hated that Silver was already higher in rank than her. Hell, Senka did not even have a rank yet. But she figured it was going to be lower than Silver’s beta position. Ugh. She hated being overruled by others. Senka went into a run finally, this time making sure to keep up with everyone, which was not hard considering she felt better now that she was not dehydrated.

(sounds like a good idea)

Ragnarok saw Senka look at her from the corner of her eye when she spoke to Vice, saying they were reaady. Ragnarok sighed and trotted after Vice shaking her head. She was unsure of how well Senka and her would get along. But that was to be worried about after they ran out the storm and were actually somewhat safe. Maybe once they figured out where they were going it would be possible to sort out things with Senka.

When everyone was at the same pace and Vice began a full out run, Ragnarok picked up the pace easily, her long legs setting into the familiar rhythm.

(Sounds good to me)
